The Collections Manager provides full leadership and supervisory responsibility, operational/service leadership, and direction to team(s). Applies in-depth disciplinary knowledge through value‑added perspectives or advisory services, and may contribute to the development of new techniques, models, and plans within the area of expertise. Strong communication and diplomacy skills are required. Generally responsible for volume, quality, timeliness of end results and shared responsibility for planning and budgets. Works across the area to effect overall performance and effectiveness of the sub‑function/job family. Full supervisory responsibility includes motivating and developing the team through professional leadership, performance evaluation, compensation, hiring, disciplinary action, terminations, and direction of daily tasks and responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of support staff and/or entry‑level analysts.
- Oversee team projects and deliverables.
- Use independent judgment to resolve problems and troubleshoot discrepancies within computerized collection systems and the associated data.
- Apply expert knowledge of skip‑tracing/tracking tools to locate debtors and maintain accurate personal information (home address, place of employment, wage, lien information, bank accounts).
- Design and implement new work procedures, analyzing complex and variable issues that significantly impact the department.
- Manage staffing requirements to meet operational needs.
- Coach staff, manage performance, make compensation decisions, and oversee staff career development.
- Use in‑depth disciplinary knowledge to resolve issues within the area.
- Evaluate subordinates’ performance and recommend pay increases, hiring, terminations, and other personnel actions.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of how the area integrates to contribute to overall business goals.
- Provide evaluative judgment based on analysis of factual information in complicated situations.
- Contribute to planning, budget management, formulation of procedures, and resource planning.
- Persuade and influence others through strong communication and diplomacy skills; negotiate with external parties when required.
- Deliver an exceptional client experience measured by specific metrics.
Qualifications
- 5–8years of experience in collections.
- Strong decision‑making skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Leadership experience and effective communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Additional related skills: analysis, synthesis, equipment handling, vendor management.
Education
- Bachelor’s or university degree, or equivalent experience.
- Experience leading personnel and managing vendor relationships.
- Experience in collections (at least 3years).
- Emphasis on goal fulfillment, working under pressure, and analysis of indicators.
