Senior Director, Software Engineering
Capital One is seeking an experienced software engineering leader to help us build and grow our Technology Site in Mexico City. Based in Mexico City, the Senior Director of Software Engineering will be responsible for building and leading a team of software engineers focused on software delivery experience tools, cloud governance for compliance, risk reduction, automation, and advancing cloud‑native architectures. The role also includes delivering well‑managed experiences to empower leaders and application teams with visibility and control of their activities.
As a Senior Director, you will work with senior Technology and Business Executives, understand their vision, and translate it into an execution strategy. You will guide software engineering teams responsible for the design and delivery of high‑quality software for critical business features built on AWS. You will collaborate with Architecture, Product, Technology, and Enterprise stakeholders, provide technology thought leadership, raise the talent bar by recruiting top engineering talent, work with product owners to articulate benefits of proposed solutions, influence the technical roadmap, and help the business prioritize work.
Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of 50‑70 high‑quality software engineers
- Support an aggressive recruiting agenda to staff a large (100+ person) organization
- Provide thought leadership and guidance to engineers, product partners, and stakeholders around software delivery experience, cloud and risk engineering
- Encourage innovation, cutting‑edge technologies, and out‑of‑the‑box thinking
- Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions
- Serve as the primary point of contact and proactively manage relationships with Capital One US Tech leaders to align resources and support strategic priorities
- Passion for staying on top of tech trends, learning and experimenting with new technologies, participating in technology communities, and mentoring engineering community members
- Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments
- Support continuous improvement processes and shift‑left well‑managed activities by enabling the developer community through tooling and automation

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 15 years’ experience in a technical role (data or software engineering)
- At least 5 years of executive technology leadership experience
- At least 5 years of experience driving architecture and engineering excellence at enterprise scale
- At least 5 years of experience with public cloud technologies
- Fluent in Spanish and English, both spoken and written
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) field
- 7+ years of experience with cloud architecture, cloud computing, data technologies, DevOps technologies, open‑source integrations, and various software design architectural patterns
- 4+ years of software engineering experience with a financial services, banking, or credit card company
- Willingness to travel occasionally to support key initiatives, attend meetings, conferences, or training
