Data Scientist (ID#5538)

New Value Solutions (NVS), a national IT consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer based in Mexico to support a major Canadian airline on a Finance initiative focused on developing a predictive cost model. The Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer will work closely with a Canadian Predictive Analytics Lead and a hybrid data team to develop, test, refine, and operationalize Python-based predictive models supporting forecasting, profitability planning, scenario modelling, and what-if analysis.

Responsibilities:

• Develop and test predictive models using Python, statistical methods, and machine learning techniques.
• Support the development of a new predictive cost model for financial forecasting and profitability planning.
• Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, relationships, anomalies, and potential predictive variables.
• Perform data preparation, transformation, feature engineering, and feature selection.
• Train, test, compare, and refine multiple modelling approaches.
• Support regression, forecasting, classification, time-series, or other predictive modelling approaches as appropriate.
• Develop scenario modelling and what-if analysis capabilities.
• Evaluate model accuracy, stability, interpretability, and business usefulness.
• Develop model-testing and validation procedures.
• Work closely with senior data scientists and Finance stakeholders to refine model assumptions and analytical requirements.
• Collaborate with data engineers to identify required datasets, transformations, and data-quality improvements.
• Support model operationalization and development of repeatable analytical workflows.
• Develop reusable Python code, notebooks, scripts, and analytical components.
• Document model logic, methodology, assumptions, features, validation results, and limitations.
• Support visualization and communication of analytical findings to technical and business stakeholders.
• Assist with troubleshooting and refinement of models based on business feedback and validation results.
• Support knowledge transfer and transition of analytical processes to the client team.
• Follow client privacy, security, and access controls associated with sensitive financial information.

Requirements:

• 4+ years of professional experience in data science, machine learning, predictive analytics, or applied statistical modelling.
• Strong hands-on Python development experience.
• Experience with common Python data science and machine learning libraries such as pandas, NumPy, scikit-learn, or equivalent technologies.
• Demonstrated experience developing and testing predictive models.
• Experience with feature engineering, model selection, model validation, and performance evaluation.
• Strong understanding of statistical modelling and machine learning concepts.
• Experience with forecasting, regression, time-series modelling, or similar predictive techniques.
• Experience developing scenario analysis, simulations, or what-if capabilities is strongly preferred.
• Strong SQL skills and experience working with structured enterprise datasets.
• Experience working with financial, cost, revenue, commercial, operational, or business analytics is strongly preferred.
• Experience preparing and analysing large or complex datasets.
• Experience working with data engineering teams and enterprise data environments.
• Experience with SQL Server and/or Snowflake is considered an advantage.
• Experience operationalizing or productionizing machine learning models is considered an advantage.
• Experience with model explainability and communicating model outcomes to business stakeholders is considered an advantage.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with Canadian team members and maintain appropriate overlap with Canadian business hours.
• Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Mexico.
