Controller

OBJECTIVE:

Lead and oversee financial control, accounting, treasury, tax compliance, customs, and internal audit functions for the Mexican operation, ensuring the integrity and accuracy of financial information under Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF) and IFRS, compliance with federal and local tax obligations, and alignment with the standards and policies of the North American corporate headquarters. Acts as the primary local financial reference for the parent company, shareholders, tax authorities, and regulatory bodies.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES, including but not limited to:

Financial Control and Corporate Reporting

• Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements under Mexican NIF and IFRS, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting policies.
• Coordinate the monthly accounting close process (hard close / soft close) within the deadlines required by the North American corporate headquarters.
• Report key financial results and variances (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) to the SVP of Finance and Accounting through established systems and formats (Perfect Fit, ODOO, and others).
• Implement and maintain local accounting policies aligned with corporate US GAAP and applicable NIF / IFRS standards.
• Ensure the correct application of NIF and IFRS and their reconciliation, as applicable and required.
• Supervise intercompany reconciliations with the parent company and other group subsidiaries.

Treasury and Liquidity Management

• Manage and supervise daily cash flow, quarterly liquidity projections, and working capital optimization.
• Manage banking relationships and ensure compliance with covenants established in credit agreements.
• Supervise bank reconciliations and petty cash.

Tax Compliance — Federal and Local

• Ensure the correct determination, calculation, and filing of federal taxes: corporate income tax (ISR), monthly VAT (IVA), IEPS, and withholding of ISR and IVA for individuals and foreign residents.
• Supervise the correct application of authorized deductions, CUFIN, CUCA, and the calculation of profit sharing (PTU).
• Manage filings with the SAT: VAT refunds, offsets, compliance certificates, and RFC updates.
• Coordinate compliance with local taxes: Payroll Tax (ISN) before the relevant state tax authorities, and other municipal duties and taxes.
• Supervise the filing of informational returns: DIOT, Annual Shareholders and Partners Notice (Form 96), and annual, quarterly, or monthly notices to the Ministry of Economy (Financial Statements) as required for Foreign Investment companies.
• Attend to requests and audits from tax authorities (SAT, IMSS, INFONAVIT), coordinating with external advisors.

Foreign Trade and Customs

• Supervise compliance with the applicable customs legal framework for the importation of garments and accessories: Customs Law (Ley Aduanera), RGCE, and applicable NOMs for the textile and apparel sector.
• Control the correct tariff classification (HTS code) of imported goods and the payment of import duties (IGI) and import VAT.
• Supervise the relationship with the customs broker and ensure the integrity of import / export customs entries (pedimentos).
• Maintain up-to-date registrations in the sectoral importers' registry before the SAT.
• Management and administration of the digital Foreign Trade file (expediente digital de Comercio Exterior).

Internal Control, Audit, and Regulatory Compliance

• Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control system based on the COSO framework, ensuring the reliability of financial information.
• Coordinate the annual external audit of financial statements with the firm designated by corporate headquarters.
• Coordinate periodic internal audits, including reviews of apparel inventory and license agreements.
• Ensure compliance with anti-bribery and anti-corruption policies (FCPA — Foreign Corrupt Practices Act) and the Mexican National Anti-Corruption System.
• Supervise IMSS / INFONAVIT compliance: correct determination of employer-employee contributions, integrated daily wage (SBC), and housing fund contributions.
• Supervise fixed asset management: physical inventory control, depreciation, additions, disposals, and transfers.

Budget Management and Financial Analysis

• Lead the annual financial planning process (Annual Operating Plan — AOP) and quarterly forecast process in coordination with the commercial, operations, and corporate teams.
• Analyze variances vs. budget and prior periods, issuing executive management commentary for the parent company.
• Control license costs (royalties) and ensure the correct accounting of guaranteed minimums and licensee audits.
• Evaluate investment projects and new business lines / new licenses through financial models (NPV, IRR, payback).
• Prepare financial KPI reports: gross margin, EBITDA, DSO, DPO, inventory turnover.

Financial Management of Commercial Channels — Retail and Wholesale

• Supervise financial control and accounts receivable management for key department store retail accounts: Liverpool, El Palacio de Hierro, Sears, Suburbia, Coppel, and others; ensuring correct application of commercial terms, discounts, bonuses, and charges.
• Control and validate chargebacks issued by department store chains: returns, late delivery penalties, incorrect labeling, and price discrepancies, ensuring proper accounting records and dispute management.
• Supervise correct invoicing to retail channel customers in accordance with applicable commercial agreements, including proper VAT treatment and credit notes.
• Manage account statement reconciliation with department store chains and coordinate with the commercial team to resolve discrepancies.
• Supervise wholesale channel accounts receivable: payment terms, credit limits, aging analysis, and allowance for doubtful accounts per NIF C-3.
• Analyze profitability by channel (Department Retail vs. Wholesale vs. other channels), providing financial visibility to the management team for commercial decision-making.
• Coordinate with Commercial Planning on the sales forecast by channel for integration into the financial budget and AOP process.
• Supervise compliance with electronic invoicing obligations (CFDI) for transactions with large taxpayers in the retail sector, including correct use of payment complements.
• Understand and manage channel-specific business models: consignment, outright purchase, EDI (Electronic Data Interchange), supplier portals (e.g., Liverpool and PHI vendor portals) and their financial and tax implications.

COMPETENCES AND SKILLS

• In-depth knowledge of Mexican Financial Reporting Standards (NIF) and IFRS, including preparation and review of financial statements.
• Federal tax expertise: ISR, IVA, IEPS, withholdings, transfer pricing, and informational returns.
• Experience in customs and foreign trade: Customs Law (Ley Aduanera), RGCE, tariff classification, and digital foreign trade file management.
• Payroll tax (ISN) compliance and social security obligations (IMSS / INFONAVIT).
• Treasury and liquidity management: cash flow, banking relationships, and working capital.
• Financial management of department store retail channels (Liverpool, PHI, etc.) and wholesale channel, including chargebacks and accounts receivable control.
• Internal controls — COSO Framework, external and internal audit coordination.
• Budgeting and financial planning: AOP, quarterly forecasting, and financial KPI reporting.
• Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (SAP FI/CO, ODOO, Perfect Fit, or similar) and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, advanced Excel).

• Effective communication with stakeholders in both English and Spanish.
• Adaptability to international corporate policies and ability to manage under pressure.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA / C.P.) — required, titulado.
• Minimum 8-12 years of experience in Controller, Finance Director, or similar positions.
• At least 4 years in a multinational company or with reporting responsibilities to a foreign corporate headquarters.
• MBA or Master's in Finance desirable; IFRS certification desirable.
• Advanced English / Bilingual — required for corporate reporting.
• Demonstrated experience in department store retail channels (Liverpool, El Palacio de Hierro, etc.) and wholesale distribution in Mexico.
• Experience in foreign trade / customs and licensed apparel operations.
• Up-to-date knowledge of Mexican tax and labor regulations.
