Strategic Trade Compliance Supervisor

Quanex is looking for a Strategic Trade Compliance Supervisor.

Position Purpose:

The Strategic Trade Compliance Supervisor-Mexico is responsible for leading and overseeing strategic trade compliance activities across Mexico operations, ensuring adherence to applicable import, export, customs, sanctions, and trade regulations. This role provides guidance to business stakeholders, drives compliance initiatives, mitigates trade-related risks, and supports operational excellence through the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of trade compliance processes and controls.

Primary Responsibilities

• Leads strategic trade compliance activities for Mexico operations, ensuring adherence to applicable import, export, customs, sanctions, Immex requirements, USMCA provisions and trade regulations.
• Responsible for VAT certification & risk assessment
• Submission of Annual reports for Government agencies
• Data governance of HTS classifications, country of origin determination.
• Governance and reconciliation responsibility for Annex 24 / 30
• Supervise and develop data analyst.
• Develop the Mexico Tactical Trade Leader & team by providing coaching, training, and technical guidance to ensure effective execution of compliance responsibilities.
• Conduct compliance risk assessments, audits, and monitoring activities to identify gaps, implement corrective actions, and strengthen internal controls.
• Serve as the primary trade compliance advisor in Mexico to operations, logistics, procurement, supply chain, manufacturing, engineering, and commercial teams.
• Manage customs broker relationship; own communications with government entities and legal counsel
• Monitor changes in trade regulations and customs requirements, assess business impacts, and lead implementation of necessary compliance updates.
• Manage trade compliance metrics and reporting, analyzing trends, identifying risks, and communicating performance to management and key stakeholders.

Knowledge / Skill / Abilities

• Advanced knowledge of Mexican customs laws, regulations, and trade programs, including IMMEX, Annex 24, Annex 30, and PROSEC
• Strong understanding of international trade regulations, including import/export controls, sanctions, HTS classification methodologies, customs valuation principles, country of origin determinations, restricted party screening, and USMCA
• Knowledge of trade compliance systems, ERP platforms, and customs management software.

Qualifications / Prior Experience

• Bachelor's or associates degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Customs Administration, Law, Finance, or a related field.

OR

• Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in trade compliance, customs compliance, import/export operations, international logistics, or a related field.
• Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent) and trade compliance management tools.
• Need to be proficient in English

Work Environment / Other Requirements

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• 20% travel
