This role contributes to that mission by developing and integrating measurement and inspection systems to ensure product quality and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with manufacturing, division, and other functional groups to define and implement measurement methods, inspection systems, and timing requirements.
• Integrate process controls and error‑proofing, ensuring documented procedures are followed.
• Provide global expert support to manufacturing engineering and operations teams for efficient, reliable operations, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and corrective actions.
• Train engineering, maintenance, and operations associates on the use and maintenance of measurement systems.
• Develop and apply measurement uncertainty and system analysis techniques to verify proper measurement system capability.
• Design experiments and analyze data to improve measurement integrity and efficiency for fiber‑optic assemblies in prototype and volume manufacturing.
• Transfer measurement technology from other locations or early‑stage development to a production‑ready system.
• Create and manage documentation for measurement system deployments, including machine specifications, operating procedures, and drawing packages.
• Leverage external suppliers for key technologies to procure, build, and install test equipment for capacity expansion.
• Lead or participate in projects targeting cost reduction, process improvements, measurement cycle‑time reduction, and equipment availability.
• Develop maintenance procedures for test equipment and document global execution of short‑term and long‑term solutions.

Required Experience & Education

• B.S. in Optical Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mechanics or Mechatronics.
• 5+ years in measurement engineering, process engineering, visual inspection automation, or a related area.
• MS in Optics Sciences or a related field may substitute for years of experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication in English and Spanish.
• Background in fiber optics, optical engineering, or related fields.
• Experience leading and participating in technical project teams.
• Demonstrated application of the scientific method, Lean methodologies, and DMAIC tools.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills with independent hypothesis development.
• Knowledge of FMEA, PFMEA, Causal tree analysis, SPC, comparative methods, and design‑of‑experiments tools.
• Proficiency in statistical analysis: histograms, regression, hypothesis testing, DOE.
• Understanding of measurement uncertainty, Gage Repeatability & R (GR&R), and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
• Project‑management experience with concurrent projects.
• Hands‑on experience with optical test equipment: light source, power meter, OTDR, interferometer, etc.
• Experience using CAD for mechanical assemblies, drawings, and electrical schematics.
• General computer and networking knowledge.

Desired Experience & Education

• Scientific curiosity and inventive spirit in optical metrology, preferably with fiber optics.
• Application of measurement science in fiber optics, surface profiling interferometry, microscopy, refractometry, or related disciplines.
• Experience with fiber‑optic cable assembly measurement: attenuation, reflectometry, surface profile interferometry, video microscopy.
• Understanding of computer‑based measurement or automation equipment, design, setup, support, and data‑systems architecture.
• Experience developing automated solutions to improve process controls, including PLC programming.
• Experience with optical fabrication processes and optical testing.
