About the Role

A U.S.-based criminal law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to provide day-to-day legal and administrative support to attorneys and help ensure cases are handled efficiently and professionally.

The ideal candidate has previous experience working with a U.S. criminal defense law firm , is highly organized, comfortable managing multiple deadlines, and confident communicating with clients, courts, attorneys, and other parties.

This position requires someone proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of keeping attorneys organized while maintaining excellent client service in a fast-paced legal environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide administrative and legal support to criminal defense attorneys.
• Assist with the management and organization of active criminal cases.
• Maintain attorney calendars and schedule hearings, court appearances, consultations, meetings, and deadlines.
• Monitor emails and assist attorneys with organizing and prioritizing communications.
• Communicate professionally with clients regarding case updates, appointments, documents, and attorney requests.
• Follow up with clients to obtain necessary documents and case information.
• Prepare, organize, and maintain electronic case files.
• Assist with drafting and formatting legal correspondence, notices, motions, and other legal documents as directed by attorneys.
• File and organize court documents and maintain accurate records of filings and deadlines.
• Obtain and organize discovery, police reports, court records, and supporting documentation.
• Track important case deadlines and ensure attorneys are informed of upcoming requirements.
• Communicate with courts, prosecutors' offices, law enforcement agencies, and other legal professionals when necessary.
• Schedule consultations with potential and existing clients.
• Update information and case notes in the firm's case management system.
• Assist with general administrative duties and attorney follow-up as needed.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding client and case information.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working as a Legal Assistant, Legal Secretary, Case Manager, or Paralegal for a U.S. law firm .
• Criminal law or criminal defense experience strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with criminal case procedures, court deadlines, hearings, discovery, and legal documentation.
• Strong organizational and case-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage calendars, emails, deadlines, and multiple cases simultaneously.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.
• Comfortable communicating directly with clients and legal professionals.
• Experience using legal case management systems and cloud-based office tools.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
• Professional, dependable, proactive, and responsive.

Language Requirements

• Strong professional English communication skills.
• Bilingual English/Spanish candidates are highly preferred.
