Buyer Sr. - Metallics Business Unit

Position Summary

We are seeking a Buyer Sr. to support procurement activities for our Metallics Business Unit in a Shelter / IMMEX manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and expediting raw materials, metallic components, tooling, and external services required to support production while ensuring cost efficiency, supplier performance, quality standards, and compliance with trade regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute purchasing activities for direct and indirect materials supporting metallic manufacturing operations.
• Create, release, and manage purchase orders based on production schedules and forecasts.
• Expedite materials to ensure on-time delivery and production continuity.
• Coordinate with Production, Planning, Engineering, Quality, and Logistics to align material availability with business needs.  
• Maintain optimal inventory levels while monitoring shortages, excess inventory, and supply risks.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers regarding pricing, lead times, delivery performance, and quality.
• Support supplier sourcing, qualification, and negotiations to achieve the best total cost and service.
• Support procurement of metallic manufacturing commodities, including:
  • Machined parts
  • Stampings
  • Castings
  • Fasteners
  • Secondary processes (plating, heat treatment, finishing, etc.)
• Support IMMEX material control requirements, including import/export documentation and trade compliance.
• Identify cost reduction opportunities through supplier optimization and sourcing alternatives.
• Maintain accurate purchasing data within ERP/MRP systems.
• Generate purchasing, inventory, supplier performance, and delivery reports.
• Support Accounts Payable in resolving invoice discrepancies and purchase order reconciliation.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, International Business, or related field.

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in Purchasing, Procurement, or Supply Chain within a manufacturing environment.
• Experience supporting metallic manufacturing processes.
• Experience working in IMMEX, maquiladora, or Shelter operations.
• Knowledge of import/export procedures.
• Experience with supplier sourcing, negotiations, and supplier performance management.
• Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems.

Preferred

• Knowledge of ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Epicor, or similar .
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Knowledge of inventory planning and material control.  
• Experience working with domestic and international suppliers.
