Materials and Purchasing Manager

THE COMPANY

We have been retained to by a global leader in high speed and high-density connection systems who solves system design challenges with integrated interconnect solutions for application in networking, communications, data storage, and computer server markets. This global leader currently seeks a Materials and Purchasing Manager with a focus on purchasing and planning to be part of team to lead a plant in the middle of start-up operations already underway in Mexicali, BC Mexico.  This plant manufactures bulk cables for high-speed IO products. This will be a highly automated plant with core wire extrusion, wrapping, cabling, and jacketing. The position reports to the Plant Manager.

THE POSITION

Main Responsibilities:

1. Plans and organizes the work of his/her unit in a systematic and methodical manner and manages a team of material buyers and planners.
2. Has the responsibility for determining the requirements, production planning / programming, purchasing and materials warehousing at a minimum cost.
3. Maintains timely contacts with suppliers to analyze product characteristics, quality, service conditions, price and payment.
4. Establishes the procedures to follow in the company’s purchasing actions.
5. Presents the offers received to internal clients, making timely indications and suggestions about suppliers, purchasing opportunities and ensures the different aspects of their management are carried out.
6. Participates in the testing and control of samples to ensure that they meet the specified conditions.
7. Controls delivery times, ensures good condition of articles / materials, and their reception.
8. Search for alternative suppliers that can supply the same products or raw materials with improved quality, better terms, lead times, and price than the current ones.
9. Monitor or inform on current inventory or stock, notifying and supporting with the design of actions on deviations due to excess or defects that may be occurring in the warehouse.
10. Manage activities based on materials planning to ensure that the necessary material meets production schedules.
11. Ensure that demand is aligned with both internal and external capacity.
12. Provide an open line of communication with sales and marketing.
13. Materials and Purchasing Manager will be in constant communication with production managers regarding production, planning and forecasting of customer orders for shipment fulfillment.
14. Develops strategic relationships with suppliers to ensure that there is capacity to meet demand requirements.
15. Implement VMI – Vendor Managed Inventory programs to be able to reduce inventory in the short term.
16. Responsible for inventory management to meet corporate objectives.

THE CANDIDATE

Experience and Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Business, Industrial Engineering or similar.
2. Fully bilingual in English and Spanish
3. More than 5 years of management experience in the manufacturing industry in a similar role like Supply Chain Manager, Materials Manager, or Purchasing Manager.
4. Strong hands-on experience with purchasing management, sourcing new suppliers and materials, contract and price negotiations, and Production Planning and Materials Planning (buyer/planning).
5. Experience with cost reduction (managing detailed projects) and price reductions.
6. Solid knowledge and experience in supply chain.
7. Knowledge of AX Dynamic ERP system or other similar ERP’s. Knowledge of Microsoft Office (EXCEL, Word, and PowerPoint)
8. Personnel management.
9. Focused on results; proactive, and dynamic. “Makes things happen.” Strong execution. Team player.
10. Valid U.S Tourist Visa.  Able to travel up to 25% of time.
