Role

The Counsel – Mexico will serve as an in‑house legal generalist supporting a growing and increasingly complex multinational enterprise, with primary responsibility for legal matters arising in Mexico. The role will provide legal guidance across commercial transactions, regulatory and compliance matters, corporate governance, operational risk, and workforce‑related issues. The position will primarily support operations based in Tijuana and Baja California, while advising on matters across Mexican jurisdictions and coordinating closely with U.S.-based legal colleagues on cross‑border issues. The ideal candidate demonstrates sound legal judgment, a practical and business‑oriented approach, and the ability to address legal issues at the intersection of commercial operations, compliance, and people management in a multinational environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day legal advice to business leaders and internal partners in Mexico across commercial, regulatory, compliance, governance, and operational risk matters, emphasizing practical, solution‑oriented guidance.
• Review, draft, and negotiate routine agreements and commercial documents; advise on vendor, operational, and business arrangements; and support legal needs arising from day‑to‑day operations in Mexico.
• Advise on Mexican labor and employment matters as part of a broader generalist practice, including employee relations issues, investigations, restructurings, and compliance considerations, in partnership with HR and integral legal colleagues.
• Support interactions with Mexican regulators and authorities, including labor authorities and other relevant agencies; assist with inspections, audits, inquiries, and administrative proceedings as needed.
• Collaborate with U.S.-based and global legal teams on cross‑border matters, including policy alignment, risk mitigation, governance initiatives, and legal support for multinational operations.
• Support internal governance processes, policies, and compliance programs; identify emerging legal and regulatory risks in Mexico and recommend pragmatic mitigation strategies.
• Contribute to training and education for business and HR partners on legal topics relevant to Mexico operations, with a focus on risk awareness, consistency, and prevention.

Qualifications

• Ideal candidate demonstrates sound legal judgment and a practical, business‑oriented approach.
• Ability to address legal issues at the intersection of commercial operations, compliance, and people management in a multinational environment.
• Experience providing in‑house legal support within a multinational enterprise, with exposure to commercial, regulatory, governance, and labor matters.
• Experience coordinating cross‑border matters with U.S.-based legal teams is preferred.
