What You Will Do
- Participate in the development of generic and user-defined models using ETAP and PSSE/PSCAD software for use during initial submissions of models for generating facilities in design or under construction, such as utility scale solar, energy storage, and associated electrical substations and switchyards.
- Participate in the development of system-level plant models for steady-state and transient analysis for electrical studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective device coordination, arc flash, grounding systems analysis, transient over-voltage, total harmonic distortion, lightning risk assessment, transfer limits and other AC system studies.
- Support the Lead Design Engineers and SMEs to gather the requirement information to support the development of the required models in PSCAD /PSSE / ETAP as well as NERC compliance reports.
- Seek technical knowledge and input from others to help innovate procedures and processes to perform model development, power plant testing, and model validation reporting.
- Work closely with our SCADA partners to gather the pertinent information modeling and testing information to fulfill the requirements for NERC MOD testing.
- Draft technical reports in collaboration with our Power Systems Engineering SME group.
- Manage workload to prioritize competing demands while meeting deadlines and expectations.
- Manage a database of equipment models furnished by DEPCOM’s vendors and preferred partners, for use on multiple projects.
The Experience You Will Bring
Requirements:
- Bachelor or higher degree in electrical, electronic, or related engineering with professional registration (Cedula Profesional - SEP) in Mexico.
- Fluent in English oral and written communication.
- Hands-on experience using ETAP for Load flow, reactive power flow, arc flash, short circuit calculations and protection coordination.
- Knowledge of engineering principles for analysis and design.
- Knowledge (at least fundamental) of topics such as: power systems, electrical design, renewable energy, electrical substations.
- Understanding of single-line diagrams, schematic point-to-point wiring diagrams, electrical equipment characteristics (data sheets), technical reports and calculation memories.
- Understanding of standards and guidelines (NEC, IEEE, WECC, NERC, etc.).
- Developing power systems reports, such as: power flow, short-circuit, reactive power compensation, protection coordination, arc-flash, power systems stability and other design technical reports.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Knowledge of utility scale solar, energy storage solutions or power systems studies.
- Skills in PSS/E, PSCAD, SKM, DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Programming skills in Python, Fortran, MATLAB, or other programming languages.
- Knowledge of template drawings, sheet-set manager, and smart-blocks.
- Knowledge of Control Theory and Power Electronics.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD.
- Ability to travel to the US during short periods (Valid passport and visa).
