DevOps Manager

The DevOps Manager will be responsible for leading and scaling our DevOps and infrastructure function, ensuring the secure, reliable, and efficient delivery of our platform. This role combines technical leadership, team management, and strategic ownership of DevOps practices across the organization.

You will work cross-functionally with Engineering, Security, and Product teams to define and execute on DevOps strategy, improve system reliability, and embed security into all stages of the software lifecycle. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on DevOps experience but has transitioned into leading teams, driving standards, and owning outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of DevOps engineers, setting clear goals and career development paths.
• Establish team processes, performance expectations, and operational excellence standards.
• Drive hiring, onboarding, and team scaling as the company grows.
• Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Strategy & Ownership

• Define and execute the DevOps and infrastructure strategy aligned with company goals.
• Own system reliability, uptime, and performance (SLAs, SLOs, SLIs).
• Lead initiatives around platform scalability, cost optimization, and operational efficiency.
• Establish and track key DevOps metrics (deployment frequency, MTTR, change failure rate, etc.).

DevOps & Platform Engineering

• Oversee the design and evolution of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation.
• Drive adoption of infrastructure as code (IaC), GitOps, and platform standardization.
• Ensure best practices in cloud architecture, particularly within AWS.
• Guide architectural decisions around Kubernetes, containerization, and distributed systems.

Security & Compliance

• Partner with security teams to embed security into the DevOps lifecycle (DevSecOps).
• Ensure implementation of security best practices including vulnerability scanning, monitoring, and incident response.
• Oversee compliance with PCI DSS and other payment-related standards.
• Lead incident management and postmortem processes for security and reliability events.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with engineering leadership to improve developer experience and delivery velocity.
• Partner with product and business teams to ensure infrastructure supports business growth.
• Act as a key stakeholder in architecture and technical decision-making.

Operational Excellence

• Establish monitoring, alerting, and observability standards across the platform.
• Ensure effective incident response processes and continuous improvement via retrospectives.
• Drive automation across infrastructure, deployment, and operational workflows.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure, or platform engineering.
• 2+ years of experience leading or managing engineering teams.
• Strong experience with AWS and cloud-native architectures (Well-Architected Framework).
• Deep understanding of CI/CD systems (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins).
• Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/ECS).
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CDK, Ansible).
• Experience implementing GitOps practices.
• Strong understanding of security best practices and tools (OWASP, vulnerability scanning).
• Experience with PCI DSS or other regulated environments is highly preferred.
• Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, or similar).
• Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.

Nice to Have:

• Experience building internal developer platforms or platform engineering teams.
• Certifications (AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform).
• Experience in fintech or payments environments.
