Air Surface Transportation Manager, MX Air ATS

MX Air ATS is building a scalable air transportation network in Mexico through a hybrid, multi-carrier model integrated with ground operations. This role owns the synchronization of ground movements with flight schedules, ensuring reliable connectivity at origin and destination airports and timely injection into delivery stations. You will partner with Network Planning, Air Hubs, Ground Transportation, AMZL and ROC, executing mechanisms that align all movements feeding and draining the network to deliver consistent customer speed.

Responsibilities

• Own air middle-mile ground synchronization, ensuring all first-mile (FC→airport) and last-mile (airport→delivery station) movements are precisely aligned with flight schedules.
• Execute middle-mile transportation mechanisms, ensuring shipments arrive at airports within defined cutoff windows, minimizing missed flights and protecting aircraft utilization.
• Drive timely injection into delivery stations, aligning with AMZL cycles to maximize Next Day and Same Day delivery performance.
• Partner with Network Planning, Air Hubs, Ground Carriers, AMZL and ROC to ensure planned flows are translated into consistent, executable movements across the network.
• Identify and resolve execution gaps impacting connectivity, including late arrivals, misaligned CPTs, and dwell time at airport nodes, driving continuous improvement in speed and reliability.
• Own ground-related disruption management, partnering with ROC and operations teams to execute recovery actions that protect customer promise and minimize downstream impact.
• Improve air capacity utilization through ground execution discipline, ensuring that available space is effectively filled by eliminating variability in transportation timing.
• Maintain and improve Cost per Shipment by driving efficient ground execution, reducing missed connections, minimizing dwell time and optimizing transportation timing to lower cost while preserving speed.
• Track and analyze key performance metrics (e.g., on-time airport arrival, missed flight connections, injection timing, dwell time, CPS) to identify root causes and implement scalable solutions.

A day in the life

You start the day reviewing flight schedules, linehaul departures, and airport arrivals to ensure all movements are aligned with cutoff times. You partner with ROC, Ground Carriers, and Air Hubs to resolve delays, adjust plans, and protect connectivity. Throughout the day, you monitor execution, identify risks such as late arrivals or missed connections, and drive immediate recovery actions. You work closely with Network Planning and AMZL teams to ensure timely injection into delivery stations. You analyze performance metrics, including on-time arrival and CPS, and implement improvements to reduce variability, increase utilization, and ensure consistent delivery speed for customers across the network.

MX Air ATS operates like a small airline within Amazon, building and managing a domestic air transportation network through a hybrid, multi-carrier model. The team is responsible for designing the network, managing air carriers, and ensuring that operations run reliably day-to-day. We work in a highly dynamic environment where no two days look the same. The team continuously innovates to improve connectivity, speed, and efficiency, solving complex transportation challenges across air and ground. This is a hands-on team that moves fast, tests new ideas, and plays a critical role in enabling faster delivery experiences for customers across Mexico.

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of employee and performance management experience
• Work a flexible schedule/shift/work area, including weekends, nights, and/or holidays
• Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent
• Experience working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing operations environment
• Experience working cross-functionally and driving decision making among stakeholders with competing goals
• Speak, write, and read fluently in English, and have the ability to take direction in English
• Experience analyzing data and performance metrics to identify root causes and drive improvements

Preferred Qualifications

• 1+ years of performance metrics, process improvement or lean techniques experience
• Bachelor\'s degree in engineering, supply chain, operations management or logistics
• 2+ years in middle-mile transportation, linehaul or air cargo operations
• Proven ability to manage transportation flows and service level commitments
