IBM Power Systems Engineer

Pellera Technologies is seeking an experienced IBM Power Systems Engineer to join our Managed Services team. This role is responsible for administering, supporting, monitoring, and optimizing IBM Power Systems environments including IBM i (iSeries), HMC, VIOS, LPARs, SAN connectivity, and High Availability solutions.

The successful candidate will provide advanced technical support, infrastructure design, troubleshooting, automation, disaster recovery planning, and performance optimization across complex enterprise Power environments.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure the operational integrity, availability, and security of IBM Power Systems infrastructure.
• Administer IBM i (iSeries) environments including security, TCP/IP, BRMS, job control, performance tuning, capacity planning, PTF management, and license administration.
• Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS).
• Administer Physical and Virtual HMC environments.
• Create, modify, and manage LPARs using both GUI and CLI methods.
• Perform system firmware maintenance and coordinate system updates.
• Implement and support Power virtualization technologies.
• Configure and manage Virtual SCSI (vSCSI), NPIV, and Shared Ethernet Adapters (SEA).
• Support SAN integration, zoning, masking, and storage connectivity.
• Manage IBM FlashSystem and external storage integrations.
• Design and support high availability and disaster recovery solutions using technologies such as MIMIX, iTera, or PowerHA.
• Perform backup and recovery operations utilizing BRMS and associated technologies.
• Configure and support physical and virtual tape environments.
• Analyze system performance using tools such as nmon, topas, lparstat, vmstat, and iostat.
• Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
• Support Live Partition Mobility (LPM) and Active Memory Sharing configurations.
• Develop and maintain operational procedures, runbooks, and technical documentation.
• Create automation scripts using Bash or Korn Shell.
• Support HMC CLI administration and automation.
• Participate in customer escalations and major incident resolution activities.
• Participate in a rotating 24x7 on-call schedule for critical infrastructure support.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience supporting IBM Power Systems environments.
• Strong experience with IBM i (iSeries) administration in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience with HMC administration and LPAR management.
• Strong knowledge of VIOS administration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with Power8, Power9, and Power10 platforms.
• Experience with Virtualization technologies including:

LPARs

Shared Processor Pools

Dynamic LPAR Operations

Live Partition Mobility

• Experience with SAN technologies, NPIV, MPIO, zoning, and storage integration.
• Knowledge of Virtual Ethernet, VLANs, SEA configuration, and network troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
• Strong understanding of BRMS, MIMIX, iTera, or similar technologies.
• Experience with performance monitoring and capacity planning.
• Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Knowledge of ITIL-based support environments and ticketing systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

• IBM Power Systems Certifications.
• IBM i Certification.
• PowerHA experience.
• Experience with IBM FlashSystem environments.
• Experience automating administrative tasks using Bash or Korn Shell.
• Familiarity with PowerVC and REST APIs.
• Experience with firmware lifecycle management and IBM support processes.
• Security and compliance experience including SOC, PCI-DSS, SOX, or ISO 27001.
