Embedded Software Engineer (Linux)

About the Role

As an Embedded Software Engineer, you will be part of a general engineering team developing advanced embedded control solutions for Carrier’s products. This role plays a key part in designing and developing firmware that integrates embedded systems with cloud, mobile, and IoT technologies to deliver innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Develop embedded software for Carrier’s equipment and refrigeration control systems

Design and implement firmware solutions for embedded platforms

Collaborate with cross‑functional teams including systems, hardware, validation, and manufacturing

Participate in Agile software development processes

Lead or support development projects and technical initiatives

Develop prototype and test software for validation purposes

Write software specifications and test plans

Participate in design reviews, code inspections, and risk analysis activities

Support system integration and ensure compliance with requirements

Balance responsibilities between sustaining and new product development projects

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

Minimum 5+ years of experience in embedded software development

Strong programming skills in C and/or C++

Experience working with Real‑Time Operating Systems (RTOS)

Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, I2C, SPI, RS232, RS485)

Experience in software architecture, debugging, and design patterns

Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Nice to Have

Experience with connectivity protocols (WiFi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Z‑Wave)

Experience with Embedded Linux

Experience with ARM microcontrollers

Knowledge of configuration and version control systems (e.g., GitHub)

Experience with Model‑Based Development (IBM Rhapsody, MATLAB/Stateflow)

Experience in HVAC or refrigeration systems
