Payroll Business Analyst

Discovery is seeking a dedicated US Payroll Analyst to join the Global Business Services People and Culture Shared Services Payroll Department. The Payroll Analyst is responsible for administering payroll for US employees, conducting payroll audits, and implementing best practices in payroll processes. The role involves expertise in timecard entry, processing hours to gross and gross to net, and meticulous auditing of payroll results. The adecuado candidate possesses experience in high-volume, multi-state payroll, demonstrating knowledge of regulatory compliance across states, including both US and expatriate employees, and experience with payroll processing for various legal entities. With a background in processing payroll for unions and familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union pension health and welfare plans, the Analyst will play a key role in compiling, analyzing, and documenting issues related to payroll and associated activities. Responsibilities also include researching and responding to payroll inquiries, supporting internal audits, and preparing materials for external and internal auditors. Conduct payroll activities, analyze and interpret pay rules utilizing Workbrain OTA, Workday Time Tracking, Workday Payroll, and ServiceNow Case Management.
Enter and review timecard data, adjust entries, pay inputs or costing allocations.
Process special pay requests (relocation, severance, leave of absence, paid time off).
Calculate additional payroll items (garnishments, adjustments, pensions, etc.).
Resolve issues with taxes, imputed income, or benefit deductions.
Initiate pay runs, monitor and audit payrolls.
Export data from OTA for processing in Workday Payroll.
Research payroll inconsistencies and irregularities, determine root cause and provide resolution.
Become a payroll subject matter expert to resolve employee issues swiftly and efficiently.
Follow and maintain internal control policies, procedures, and compliance regarding the payroll process.
Assist with month‑end closing and general ledger integration queries to the financial system.
Prepare journal entries for SAP financial system.
Resolve complicated inquiries (payroll taxes, imputed income, benefit deductions).
Understand and evaluate reports utilizing Excel functionality (VLOOKUPS, INDEX MATCH, pivot tables).
Process invoices through Ariba and SAP systems.
Participate in testing payroll system related to process changes and enhancements.
Support leadership with other projects and tasks as required.
Experience in payroll operations, managing sensitive and confidential information.

• Experience in a shared service, large multi‑business‑unit organization (preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with Workday HR/payroll or other SaaS payroll tools required (SAP or PeopleSoft) with payroll integration and mass data loads (EIB) preferred.

Knowledge of Microsoft, particularly MS Excel.
Understanding of US federal and state regulations related to salaries, wages, taxes, benefits, and other payroll matters.
Skilled in process management, improvements, and re‑engineering.
Bilingual: Spanish / English speaking.
