Principal Engineer - MVNO Network & Cloud Core (Telecom | 5G)

Description

At Walmart, we are transforming connectivity in Mexico through our digital ecosystem. We are looking for a Principal Engineer to lead the architecture and evolution of our MVNO platform , ensuring a robust, scalable operation ready for the future of telecommunications (5G and cloud-native ).

This role will be responsible for strengthening internal mobile core capabilities, reducing dependency on external vendors, and driving strategic technical decisions with direct business impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and optimize the mobile core architecture , including signaling flows (Diameter, GTP, SIP, SS7)
• Ensure the proper operation of charging and policy systems (OCS / PCRF / PCF) to secure revenue and network control
• Lead the transition toward cloud-native architectures (Kubernetes, containers, CNFs)
• Define technical integration standards with network partners (MNO, IPX/GRX, vendors)
• Ensure network readiness for 5G Standalone (SA)
• Identify technical risks, optimize processes, and ensure operational continuity
• Act as a technical reference point for internal teams and key stakeholders

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in telecommunications
• Experience working in MVNO environments
• Strong background in mobile core (EPC / 5G Core)
• Advanced knowledge of protocols: Diameter, GTP, SIP, SS7
• Experience in Charging / Revenue Assurance
• Experience with cloud architectures (AWS, Kubernetes, Docker)
• Proven experience in architecture, principal engineering, or technical leadership roles
• Advanced English (professional working proficiency)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with VoLTE / VoNR implementations
• Knowledge of 3GPP standards
