Senior Buyer – Direct Materials (Steel)

Location: Querétaro, Mexico

Industry: Automotive (OEM – Metals)

Area: Purchasing / Supply Chain

Role Purpose

The Senior Buyer is responsible for developing mid- to long-term strategies for direct materials (steel) at regional and global levels. This role manages supplier negotiations, ensures material availability, and supports new project launches and engineering changes, driving cost competitiveness and timely delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute purchasing strategies for direct materials (steel) aligned with corporate and project objectives.
• Lead RFQ processes , requesting and analyzing supplier quotes for price, availability, and delivery.
• Prepare comparative analysis matrices to identify the best QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) options.
• Maintain and update purchasing records, vendor selection, benchmarking, and negotiation documentation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support new projects and engineering changes.
• Participate in regional and global meetings related to new launches and supplier development.
• Support the development of new steel suppliers to strengthen the supply base.
• Ensure compliance with automotive industry standards ( IATF 16949, ISO14001, Occupational Health ).

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Foreign Trade, Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a raw materials buyer in the automotive industry.
• Bilingual: English–Spanish .
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems .
• Strong negotiation, communication, organizational, and time management skills.
