Position: Senior Site Reliability Engineer + MongoDB

BASIC PURPOSE

The Platform Database Engineer is responsible for designing, deploying, administering, and optimizing MongoDB (Atlas and on-premise) databases within a large-scale, cloud-based enterprise ecosystem. The role combines deep database expertise with SRE principles to ensure performance, reliability, scalability, and automation across critical data platforms.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Architect, implement, and maintain MongoDB Atlas and non-Atlas environments, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
• Design and enforce resiliency and disaster recovery strategies, including backup, restore, and multi-region failover.
• Optimize database performance and query execution to support application development teams through all SDLC phases.
• Develop and manage infrastructure-as-code solutions (Terraform, GitOps) for database provisioning and automation.
• Implement and refine observability and monitoring solutions using Dynatrace, CloudWatch, and MongoDB native telemetry.
• Manage access control, auditing, and encryption to meet enterprise security and compliance standards.
• Collaborate with application, DevOps, and platform teams to drive continuous improvement in performance and operational excellence.
• Lead incident response for database-related issues, drive root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Mentor and guide technical teams, contributing to documentation, standards, and design reviews.
• Other duties as assigned by manager.

SUPERVISION :

• May mentor junior DBAs or SRE engineers.
• No direct reports.

RELATIONSHIPS

• Internal: Application developers, cloud operations, platform engineering, InfoSec, compliance, and architecture teams.
• External: Cloud vendors (AWS, MongoDB Atlas support), third-party monitoring and observability providers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT (Select one)

• Remote : This role is fully remote, and the associate is expected to perform assigned responsibilities from a home-based environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 4+ years’ experience as a MongoDB DBA, including 4+ years in MongoDB Atlas administration.
• Strong experience in AWS ecosystem (EC2, EKS, CloudWatch, IAM, KMS, VPC, Lambda).
• Proficiency in Terraform, GitOps, CI/CD automation, and containerized workloads (EKS/Kubernetes).
• Experience with Dynatrace, Prometheus, or equivalent observability platforms.
• Strong Linux administration and scripting (Python, Bash).
• Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
• Available for on-call rotation and incident response as required.
• Travel: <10%.

EDUCATION

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/TRAINING

• MongoDB Certified DBA (preferred).
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer (preferred).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with Kafka, CDC, and data integration platforms.
• Familiarity with GitOps practices and infrastructure observability at enterprise scale.
